am morgen bekommen wir erst mal ein full scottish breakfast serviert, im innenhof auf dem campingplatz. wow! ansonsten geht es den ganzen tag nur hoch und runter, hoch und runter. nur das stück bahnlinie von augnagatt bis maud ist besser. und vorsicht: auch ein schönes flusstal bedeutet nicht, dass es eben wäre. wir fahren mal hoch über dem fluss, mal ganz unten, usw. keine ahnung, wie viele höhenmeter das sind. aber es ist anstrengend. andreas ist am abend brezzelfertig. eva galoppiert mit kühen um die wette. drei ausgebüchste gänse am strassenrand, ein verlaufenes lamm auf der strasse… wir werden wieder oft angesprochen: woher, wohin usw, manchmal sogar auf deutsch. sehr nett alle. kaum schaut man mal auf die karte, kommt schon einer und fragt, ob er helfen kann. in banff der camping direkt am meer. es ist kalt geworden. im zelt ist es warm. die wellen dröhnen.

What relief to hear you are still in the saddle!
When you get to Inverness, the next place is Altnaharra. Back in 2004 we were told by the locals: Don’t take the Tongue road but instead turn right at Altnaharra onto the B873 alongside Loch Naver and river Naver finishing at Bettyhill and then carry on on the no. 1 . The B873 becomes B871 towards Bettyhill. This route we have taken twice and is beautiful and not quite as hilly. There will be a hill at Bettyhill I’m afraid, but I guess you are not taken much notice of them anymore, as they are there anyway.
Just a thought…
There is 1 B&B in Altnaharra, very nice and friendly., but you have to book. They are very popular. Tel. 01549 411258. No campsites for tents along the river Naver. Wild camping is allowed in Scotland and quite safe there I think.
